Sexual Harassment at Work!

SEXUAL HARASSMENT AT WORK – THE ODDS ARE THAT EMPLOYERS WILL BE SUED EVENTUALLY!

A study by the TUC has revealed that over half of women in the UK have been harassed at work. The study showed that of the 52% that had been sexually harassed, a third had been subjected to inappropriate jokes and a quarter had been touched without their consent.

Employers must be alerted to these problems. Whilst four out of five women said they did not report the incidents for fear of it either affecting their working relationships or that they would not be believed, employers ignore such behaviour at their own peril. If there is a culture of such behaviour in your business, the odds are that at some point you will face a claim and at that point it will be very difficult to refute the behaviour.

Employers should ensure that all their staff feel able to report unacceptable behaviour without fear of reprisals. Make sure your policies are up to date and ensure managers know how to deal with such matters.
